The Leadership & Learning Institute at FAHS (FAHS LLI) is the education and training arm of FAHS, created to advance leadership, professional development, and applied learning for mental health and systemic professionals. LLI offers accessible, evidence-informed certificate programs and learning experiences designed to strengthen individuals, organizations, and communities. Through practical instruction and real-world application, FAHS LLI is where learning becomes leadership.

S.P.A.R.K. MFT

S.P.A.R.K. (Strengthening Pathways to Accessible Resources for Knowledge) MFT is an initiative designed to ignite interest and create clear pathways for students from communities into the field of mental health and profession of Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT). Through engaging events, mentorship, and professional development opportunities, SPARK MFT connects high school, vo-technical, trade school, and college students with experienced mental health professionals to explore careers in behavioral health and family therapy.

Developing a Redemptive Identity - Full Report

The Identifying Resiliency and Protective Factors of Recently Incarcerated research project that formulates the Developing a Redemptive Identity Report  examines the internal and external factors that foster resilience and promote desistance among formerly incarcerated individuals. This research aims to inform interventions that support successful reintegration and long-term transformation.

The Foundation for the Advancement of Human Systems (FAHS) is pleased to introduce Cultural Compass, a new therapeutic toolkit designed to help mental health practitioners translate cultural understanding into effective, action-oriented care. This resource equips clinicians with practical, culturally-informed activities that enhance cultural competence and foster deeper, more meaningful connections with clients from diverse and historically marginalized backgrounds.

April 15, 2025

The Foundation for the Advancement of Human Systems presented a keynote at the Leadership Symposium, sponsored by AAMFT, entitled Bridging Leadership and Innovation: Empowering Communities through Strength-Based Solutions. This dynamic event spotlighted how leadership and innovation can be leveraged to strengthen mental health and substance abuse services, particularly for marginalized populations. Our distinguished panelists were all recipients of the Minority Fellowship Program and seasoned in navigating the complexities of mental health with a focus on marginalized populations. Over 185 participants attended the Leadership Symposium. This year, all keynote (main-stage) presentations were given by all MFP Alumni.

Recently, the Foundation for the Advancement of Human Systems (FAHS) received communication from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a subagency of the Health and Human Services (HHS), regarding one of our programs, the Minority Fellowship Program. This program is partially funded through a SAMHSA grant initiative and recently changed its goal to increase the number of marriage and family therapist researchers, teachers, and practitioners who will expand mental health, substance use, and prevention services to communities. The reason we are sharing this information is to lead with transparency and communication around the volatility of grant-funded programs.
