MFP Fellow Mental Health and Substance Abuse Projects

Fellow Community Projects

MFP Fellows are given the opportunity to submit an internal proposal for a low-impact community project to help mitigate the influence of external factors on SAMSHA targeted populations. This program activity allows for our Fellows to gain much more leadership training and further identify pathways of how marriage and family therapists can improve mental health and substance use services to their community as practitioners (direct service), researchers, and teachers. Additionally our Fellows will understand how external factors can increase or decrease the intensity of symptoms of mental illness, substance use, or relational issues.

Culturally-Informed Therapeutic Activities

The purpose of the Culturally Informed Therapeutic assignments is to help our Masters Fellows critically think about culturally informed techniques/activities that can assist historically marginalized communities. The activity allows our Fellows to work together in group projects and build professional relationships with their cohort members. At the end of the fellowship year each cohort of Fellows will have a document of worksheets/activities that can be used in clinical practice.

The activity allows Fellows to increase the tangible materials that will help them become confident and well-informed practitioners, and increase their cultural competence while improving mental and substance abuse services to racial and ethnic minority populations and underrepresented populations.
